Don’t talk to me about being alone…
One of my all-time favorite R.E.M. songs.
If you were a Depeche Mode fan in the 90s (like me), you probably bought this album. Like most tribute albums, it’s mostly terrible. But there are three or four gems on it. Hooverphonic’s “Shake the Disease;” God Lives Underwater’s “Fly on the Windscreen;” Failure’s “Enjoy the Silence.” Hell, even Smashing Pumpkins’ version of “Never Let Me Down” is pretty good — they were subtle on it.
But then there’s Meat Beat Manifesto’s cover of “Everything Counts.”
Fuck, what a song. Not only is it one of my all-time favorite Depeche Mode covers, but it’s also one of my favorite Jack Dangers recordings ever.
Give it about ten years, it’ll sink in.
More Meat Beat Manifesto (Jack Dangers — he invented this shit):
“Fifty-Fifty Clown.”
Can’t post lyrics, ‘cause who knows what she’s saying, but man, what a great song.
And creation and time are made from destruction
From fucking destruction
After two rainy, overcast days, I was walking up the street this morning, in the shadow of the buildings. When the sun hit me, this immediately started running through my head.
High volume is recommended.
Sweet thing, I watch you
Burn so fast it scares me
…It matters where you are
